Ketchimale Mosque – Beruwala

Sri Lanka’s very first Muslim settlement was based in Beruwala, and legend has it that this historical mosque was built at the site of the landing. This was designed based on ancient Arabic architecture, as it stands tall and white upon a rock, surrounded by swaying groves of coconut trees.
This mosque appears at its best picturesque moment when viewed from the Galle Road. For those of you who are interested in learning about history, a visit to the Ketchimale mosque is a must when you visit Cinnamon Bey Beruwala as it goes back generations, and with its myths and legends lay hidden many tales.
